News: Sidebar on display in next Vista preview

"As more computer users move to larger, wide-screen monitors, Microsoft is staking a claim to that added real estate. Windows Vista, the update to the operating system due this year, will add a feature called Sidebar. Sidebar is a small panel at the side of the monitor that can be used to view photo slide shows, RSS feeds and other small programs, dubbed gadgets.
While DVD movies have popularized widescreen displays, Windows chief Jim Allchin said there are lots of uses for the extra pixels."

I am so looking forward to this, although I am not pleased with the current state of Sidebar. But I hope to get a better view on whats new and make some more experienced comments and give some helpful feedback.

I saw the early version of this and would really like to have some sort of function added (maybe already being worked on) which allows a similar function to the Mac Widgets (sorry to swear) where a key press brings all the gadgets up and 'hides' the desktop instead of it being a sidebar which is slightly annoying!

What do you mean by "next"?.

I have been using a sidebar in MSN Premium for the past several years. I like it, and look forward to it too.

Does that mean, if you use the one in MSN Premum plus the one in Vista, you are gonna have two? Ummm, dunno, Andre. I'm sure the sidebar in Premium is/will be very different than the one in Vista. Methinks they may have been practicing sidebars with Premium?

The one from MSN it seems uses tiles, why Vista's utilizes Gadgets. I noticed in the early alphas of Vista (Longhorn), the Sidebar was based up on tiles which I prefer. -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm
